Cathal Boylan, BEng, CEng, MIEI, CHARTERED ENGINEER

Chartered Engineer, Managing Director

Cathal Boylan graduated at the Queen's University of Belfast in 1997 with an honours degree in Civil Engineering. Before setting up the Boylan Engineering, Cathal worked in varied disciplines within the industry, commencing first as a site engineer on road construction projects. In the early 2000's Cathal worked as a design engineer with ESB International - the role included Planning, Environmental assessment and EIS preparation for controversial for high voltage overhead transmission lines. The role also included steel structural design of lattice towers, concrete foundation design and general project management.

In 2001, Cathal completed a post graduate diploma in Project management from Trinity Collage. In 2005 he received the title of "Chartered Engineer" from Engineer's Ireland, reflecting his varied experience and accomplishments within the industry. In 2006 Cathal set up "Boylan Engineering" which trades as an "Engineering and Environmental Consultancy". The business has expanded year on year and since first commencement of operations have developed a solid reputation for providing high quality integrated solutions serving public and private sector clients in the construction, environmental and waste recycling industry.

Brían Cooney, CEng, BA BAI Civil Structural and Environmental Engineering, MIEI

Chartered Engineer, General Manager

Brían graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2009 with first class honours and began designing architectural and structural steel with Keystone Group in the UK and Ireland. After two years Brían emigrated to Australia and began working as Project Engineer and Project Manager with Redline Group on a wide range of multimillion Dollar civil infrastructure projects including water, roads, heavy civil and steel structures.

After spending nearly four years in the delivery of multimillion Dollar projects, Brían began working with Main Roads Western Australia in the Project Management Office (PMO). Whilst in the PMO Brían was involved in development of projects ranging in value from $500,000 to $1bn+ at all stages of a projects lifecycle from concept through to delivery.

Having worked on all sides of the construction industry as a designer, contractor and as a Client, Brían brings a holistic understanding of delivering projects. With an excellent understanding of Client requirements, efficient design and contract management, Brían will ensure quality, efficient and value for money results

Marcin Trosko, BSc, Structural Engineer

Structural Engineer

Marcin graduated from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland in 2004. Since graduation, he has worked on numerous commercial construction projects in Poland, Sweden and Ireland. He managed teams of up to 12 staff and undertook complex modelling of steel structures and reinforced concrete design. Many of his projects were for international clients such as FIAT, Unilever, Kellogg's, International Paper, and Faurecia.

Marcin is a registered Chartered Structural Engineer in Poland and is currently working toward Chartered status with Engineers Ireland.

At Boylan Engineering, Marcin plays a pivotal role in the engineering design team, ensuring designs solutions are appropriately tailored to client needs while also balancing efficiency and thus cost effective solutions

Alicia Curtis - BA Business Studies

Sales & Business Executive.

Graduated from Dundalk Institute of Technology in 2018 with a level 8 Honours Degree in Business Studies. Alicia's main role within the business includes targeting and generating of new sales, production of performance appraisal reports of completed projects, managing the release of new quotations & tenders. Her role also includes general administration including accounting using sage software etc..

Alwyn Flaws

Civil Engineer

Alwyn joined Boylan Engineering in 2019 as a Civil Engineer. He graduated in 2012 with a BEng in Civil & Transport Engineering and an MSC in Construction Project Management in 2013. Since then Alwyn has gained valuable site based experience on a variety of large scale civil projects including waste water treatment and motorway construction as well as residential and commercial building projects. Alwyn is a member of Engineers Ireland and recently obtained his CSCS Gold Card.

Alwyn also possesses strong I.T skills particularly in Civil 3d, Revit and Micro Drainage.

Sami Ullah Knan

Civil and Structural Engineer

Sami graduated in 2008 with an honours degree in Civil Engineering from CECOS University, Peshawar, Pakistan, further graduated in 2010 with an Executive MBA in Project Management from Preston University, Peshawar, Pakistan. Sami has 10 years' experience within the industry, covering a range of sectors. Following graduation he first commenced employment as a site engineer for a number of years on an array of different sites throughout Pakistan. Sami then took up a position as a lecturer in Civil Engineering at the Government College of Technology, Nowshera, Pakistan. He then developed his project management experience by accepting the role as Assistant Director in the Planning & Development section of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority in Pakistan, from 2014‐2015. In 2015, he was accepted a more senior position of Infrastructure Officer for the Municipal Services Delivery Program Peshawar, which is a program funded by the US Government for Pakistan. This program saw the rehabilitation of primary and secondary drains, trunk sewers, Tube wells, Overhead water tanks etc., the total cost of the project was 68,000,000 USD. At Boylan Engineering, Sami is involved in both Structural and Civil's design projects but also in our business development, in terms of quality control.

Javier Perez Garcia

Civil & Environmental Engineer

Javier graduated from the University of Salamanca, Spain in 2017. He joined Boylan Engineering as a graduate a Civil and Environmental Engineer and is currently involved in environmental monitoring, commercial planning design, mapping and general support. Javier is eager to eventually progress to 'Chartered status' with engineers Ireland and is undertaking CPD within the company to achieve this goal.

Fintan Coyle

Environmental Scientist

Fintan graduated with a degree in Environmental Science and Technology, as well as a Masters in Environmental Health and Safety Management, both through Institute of Technology Sligo. He has worked within Industry for over 15 years for licensed sites in Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland with exposure to varying licenced activities including cement manufacture, landfill, chemicals, wastewater treatment and quarrying. Experience in planning and licence applications, compliance management, BAT solutions, EU Emissions Trading Scheme reporting, implementation and maintenance of systems. Liaising with regulatory authorities and report writing.

At Boylan Engineering, Fintan is primarily responsible for managing the clean-up of contaminated sites (which can include contamination of ground water, surface water and soil). Fintan is also tasked with monitoring legislation change within the waste and quarry industries and providing consultation of same to clients. His other work include 'End of Waste' applications, Annual Environmental Reporting and general waste related applications

Niamh Murray

Environmental Scientist

Niamh has a Degree in Biotechnology from Dublin City University, a research Masters Degree in Biology (specialisation of Environmental Biotechnology) and 17 years' experience in the industry. Niamh joined Boylan Engineering in 2019 and her areas of expertise include the production of 'Environmental Impact Assessment Reports' (EIAR), Trans Frontier Shipment (TFS) applications and general consultation to the waste industry in terms of compliance, trends within the industry etc.

Prior to joining Boylan Engineering, Niamh worked in IPC and waste licensed facilities in the Manufacturing, Waste and agricultural sectors. Her responsibilities included ensuring compliance with EPA licences, environmental reporting including sustainability reports for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, supervision of day-to-day operations of on-site wastewater treatment plant, co-ordination of infrastructural projects, implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 management systems, managing health & safety, completing risk assessments including role as Project Supervisor Construction Stage.

Kate Doyle Cairney

Environmental Scientist

Kate recently graduated from NUI Galway in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science. This interdisciplinary degree focused on many environmental topics such as EIA, appropriate assessment, environmental biotechnology, environmental legislation, biomining and habitat management planning.

As part of her final year thesis Kate undertook a project in collaboration with a metal mine. This thesis looked at the bioremediation of mining-influenced wastewater, in particular investigating the sulfate-removal of such mining-influenced wastewater from a tailings storage facility. At Boylan Engineering & Environmental Consultancy she is involved in site monitoring, waste permits, annual reports and helping in the formation of waste orientated applications.

Marie Louise Brennan

Accounts

Marie Louise works in the accounts area of the business. She graduated from NUIG with Bachelor of Commerce Degree and also obtained qualifications in Insurance, Bookkeeping and Payroll. At Boylan Engineering her role includes, invoicing, monthly management accounts, bank reconciliation, end of years accounts and payroll.

Shola Fifo - BA BAI in Civil

Structure and Environmental Engineering

Shola Fifo finished from Trinity College Dublin with a Degree in Civil and Structural Engineering in 2009. He subsequently stayed on in the college as an engineering research associate working on Smart Material and Structure until 2015. He has developed rich research and design experience on structures for renewable energy, marine and civil engineering applications of emerging materials such as fibre reinforced polymer composite. Before joining Boylan Engineering, Shola has been working in Design and Consultancy and many of his designs have been implemented abroad. Shola has variety of experience from design and analysis of complex structures like wind turbines, multi-storey apartment buildings to telecommunication mast towers.
