Environmental Impact Statement

Boylan Engineering completed an Environmental Impact Statement in support of an application, for a proposed 'Waste Processing and Transfer Facility' for Wilton Waste Ltd., at Corranure, Cavan. The application was lodged in March 2016.

Boylan Engineering were engaged as the structural and civil engineers responsible for major renovation works at the historical castle hotel. Our responsibilities include design and construction supervision from planning stage through to construction stage. Structural engineering consists of various condition assessments and designs in masonry barrel arch / vault roofs, concrete, timber and steel. The scope also consists of foul and storm sewer upgrade designs. This project commenced in September 2015 and is to be completed in early 2017.

The Environmental section of Boylan Engineering were engaged to project manage a significant oil spill at a school in Co. Kildare. The problem was first detected by a pressure drop of the main oil feed line. Monitored excavation in the vicinity of the oil line commenced. The level of contamination within the soil was observed in real time using a ‘Volatile Organic Compound’ detector. This enabled one not only quantify the level of soil to be removed but also quickly identified the source of the oil leak. A Hydrological assessment of the underlying aquifer was also undertaken to determine possible impact. Boylan Engineering directed the contaminated soil be exported off-site for treatment / disposal as appropriate. The project was completed in November 2015.

Boylan Engineering were engaged as lead consultants on the design and construction supervision of a proposed ‘Georgian’ style house in Co. Meath. The design needed to incorporate key ‘Georgian’ features while being sympathetic to modern living requirements, such as contemporary open plan design, sunlight penetration and orientation. The Exterior walls measured 550mm thick with splayed sash windows and roof design that avoided dominance of the structure. All designs were completed in house at Boylan Engineering. The project was complete in October 2016.

Cathal Boylan was appointed the role of Resident Engineer for the instalation of a new privately funded Bord Gais line in County Meath. Role included liaising with Bord Gais, the contractor and the client. Phase 1 of the project completed in Aug. 2014.

Boylan Enginering was commisioned by the Board of Management of St. Kilian's NS to design and supervise the instalation of new two-storey pre-fabricated classrooms. Project completed in August 2014.

The environmental team of Boylan Engineering has recently lodged an application with Westmeath County Council for an infill site for the acceptance of soil and stone. The soil and stone arrives on the site as a waste material but becomes fully recovered for the agricultural benefit of the site.

Boylan Engineering regularly produce bespoke Interceptor Trap designs, tailored to specific waste processing sites. We not only design the capacity of the unit, but also design retrofit baffles and silt traps up gradient of the unit. Following installation, we undertake sample testing of the surface-water that passes through the unit, thus ensuring compliance with relevant discharge requirements.
